The Engineering-News Record (ENR) recognized the University of Virginia (UVA) Health System, University Hospital Expansion (UHE) with the 2020 Best Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Project award, honoring the top regional construction initiatives.

M.C. Dean’s scope included power, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage pathways. The company designed and built 14 modular electrical rooms at its modular manufacturing facility (now named Modular Mission Critical), enabling an accelerated schedule to meet UVA’s aggressive timeline to deliver specialized rooms to care for COVID-19 patients.

“This award is a great honor for M.C. Dean and our modular delivery team. UVA is a key client, and we have provided engineering solutions on several other projects, including the Ivy Mountain Musculoskeletal Center,” said Mike Keatley, Electrical Systems senior vice president. “This recognition is a testament to both our customer and our team’s commitment to design excellence, virtual design and construction, and modular design innovations.”

The 440,000-sq-ft multiphase expansion includes an emergency department and more than 80 examination rooms made up of separate behavioral health, pediatric, and adult care departments.
